What is blue light?

Blue light, ranging from 400 to 490 nanometres on the visible spectrum, is emitted by common electronic devices like TVs, smartphones, and computers. The growing recognition of its potential harm to eyes and sleep signifies an escalating concern that should not be overlooked.

Why is blue light harmful?

While blue light plays a role in regulating our sleep-wake cycle, excessive exposure—especially from screens can lead to several issues:

Eye Strain & Fatigue – Prolonged screen time can cause digital eye strain, leading to dry eyes, headaches, and difficulty focusing.

Sleep Disruption – Blue light suppresses melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate sleep, making it harder to fall and stay asleep.

Potential Long-Term Damage – Some research suggests excessive blue light exposure may contribute to retinal damage over time, increasing the risk of conditions like macular degeneration.

Wearing blue light glasses can help reduce exposure, ease eye discomfort, and support better sleep, especially for those who spend long hours in front of screens.

What are the benefits of wearing blue light blocking glasses?

Reduces Eye Strain – Filters out harmful blue light from screens, minimizing digital eye fatigue and discomfort.

Improves Sleep – Helps maintain melatonin production by reducing blue light exposure, improving sleep quality.

Prevents Long-Term Eye Damage – May reduce the risk of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and other eye conditions linked to cumulative blue light exposure.

How does our blue light blocking glasses work?

Our blue light blocking glasses feature technology, which is designed to filter out harmful High Energy Visible (HEV) light, particularly in the blue light spectrum, without distorting colour perception.

This nearly clear lens effectively reduces the amount of blue light entering your eyes, minimising digital eye strain and preserving melatonin production for better sleep. Additionally, they provide built-in UV protection, blocking both UVA and UVB rays, ensuring comprehensive protection for your eyes while enhancing visual clarity and comfort.

What is the right size for me?

Understanding Frame Measurements

If you look on the inside of your glasses, you'll find a number that looks like: 52 [] 18 135. This information shows you the size of your glasses; the lens diameter, the bridge width and the side length, all measured in millimetres.

Lens diameter

The lens diameter is the width of the lens (in mm), measured from the bridge. It can be a matter of personal choice, but it's also determined by your frame style.

Bridge width

The bridge width is the gap above your nose between the lenses. It's important that this is comfortable - too tight, and the glasses could pinch your nose; too loose and the glasses won't be stable on your face.

Length of side

The length of the side is usually one of three standards – 135, 140 or 145mm. The side should be long enough to sit comfortably over your ears. Glasses with straight sides don't always have this measurement indicated.

There is no hard and fast rules when it comes to selecting glasses as it’s a personal decision, however glasses should frame your face, following the brow line. When it comes to face shapes our rounder frames look better on squarer faces and square frames look more balanced on rounder faces.

If it is your first time buying glasses below is a general size guide to help you. For a better idea of how the glasses will fit, compare the frame measurements to your face using a ruler while facing a mirror.

What is the right magnification strength for me?

If you are unsure, here’s a general guide based on age and screen habits:

+0.75 to +1.50: Mild magnification for those experiencing slight difficulty focusing on screens. Best for younger adults or those with minimal eye strain.

+1.75 to +2.50: Moderate magnification for regular screen users, such as those working on computers for extended periods. Suitable for most adults aged 45–60.

+2.75 to +4.00: Strong magnification for those with significant difficulty focusing on screens or performing close-up digital tasks. Recommended for older adults or those with stronger vision needs.
